I go to Reiki (ray-key) on the regular. It’s a form of holistic energy healing where the practitioner lays their hands either very softly on you or around you in a way for them to transfer life energy to the patient to increase their overall well being. Having read that sentence you’re either thinking, “that’s fantastic!” or “oh, okay so she’s a loon – it all makes sense now.” But I’m telling you for me personally it’s been an amazing experience. I don’t really know how they make happen what they do happen but when I leave I feel like a mellowed-out version of a super hero, so I personally am I all for it.
With that in mind, the other day I noticed a dog strutting in to Reiki so I inquired about what the pooch was up to. Imagine my delight when I learned that my Reiki facility also does Reiki for pets. Hot damn! But it occurred to me, while people do go to Reiki to assist them in healing their physical ailments, I to keep my qi in check. So, how would you know that your pet might need to go and what exactly would happen during a Reiki session with a pet? This week Raise A Paw is quite inquisitive about Reiki for your pet?
In case you haven’t noticed your pet can be very in tune with the energy of you and the energy that surrounds them in the household. They too can absorb a “life force” which can cause them to feel a tad askew from time to time. When there is enough good energy present your pet it will be healthy, relaxed and happy but when that energy drops are flows off-center your pet is more likely to become sick or stress out and generally unhappy.
When working on a dog or cat the Reiki practitioner will either use soft petting strokes or softly lay their hands on your pet in and will utilize themselves as sort of an open-channel, following your pets cues to aid in facilitating the flow of universal life energy. The purpose of this is to help them feel less stressed either emotionally or due to illness. The Reiki practitioner doesn’t manipulate the body of your pet in any way but rather gently strokes them in a calming manor and lays their hands on them to transfer the energy and “listen” to what your pet is telling them about their own internal struggles. Reiki practitioners feel that they can receive intuitive information from your pet during this treatment and can talk to you, the owner, about what they were picking up from your pet during that session.
